Before the coming of the Darkness, Morsel Catchers were part of the Grimwood's natural cycle. They processed animal remains and rotting wood, cleansing the soil and accelerating the growth of new plants. After the arrival of the Darkness, their growth accelerated and their behavior became aggressive. Now they capture living prey and digest it alive.
