Before the coming of the Darkness, Crystal Mycelium managed the distribution of resources throughout the Grimwood, directing the growth of fungal colonies and stabilizing their development. Their crystalline structures allowed energy to flow between nodes of the network. After the arrival of the Darkness, their function remained largely unchanged, though their aggression increased significantly.
